A 50-year-old man has been charged with the attempted murder of the man police believe killed his brother earlier this year.

Captain Jack Kennedy, the commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said the suspect, 50-year-old Johnny McAlpine, shot the victim, 24-year-old Omar Fowler Wednesday at the Allen's Food Mart on Highway 11 in McCalla.

Kennedy said the victim in this case, Fowler, stands accused of fatally shooting McAlpine's brother Henry McAlpine in late June and was out of jail on bond on a murder charge at the time of the new shooting Wednesday.

Kennedy said Johnny McAlpine found Fowler at the service station and convenience store just off I-20/59's Exit 97 and shot him multiple times.

Fowler was transported to an area hospital for treatment of his wounds -- Kennedy did not release his condition as of Friday afternoon.

Johnny McAlpine was arrested by VCU investigators Friday and charged with attempted murder. He was booked in the Tuscaloosa County Jail, where he remained Friday afternoon.
