Luther Michael Freeman, age 76 of Tuscaloosa, passed away on August 9, 2023, at Forest Manor Nursing Home.

He is survived by his wife Nancy Freeman, daughter; Jessica Parrish (Charles), of San Jose, CA., sister; Barbara Durkay (John), of San Angelo, TX., brothers; Jerry Freeman of Akron, OH., Robert Freeman of San Angelo,TX. and his grandchild; Eleanor Parrish.

Dr. Freeman was born in McComb, MS. He received his B.S. and M.S. in aerospace engineering from Mississippi State University before serving as an officer in the United States Air Force from 1973 until 1977. After working for Boeing for a year, he returned to Mississippi State where he received his doctorate in aerospace engineering in 1982. He joined the engineering faculty at the University of Alabama in 1982 and taught aerospace engineering until 2012. He worked with NASA and was an advisor to the student branch of AIAA at UA. He continued to work with the southeast region of AIAA after his retirement and was honored by having an annual award named in his honor.

He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.

His loved ones will plan to hold a Celebration of Life at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Dr. L. Michael Freeman Scholarship or West Alabama Food Bank.
