Los Angeles Man Charged with Human Trafficking, Soliciting Porn from Child in Tuscaloosa
A registered sex offender from Los Angeles has been charged with a brace of felonies in Tuscaloosa, where police accuse him of human trafficking, soliciting pornography from a child and more.
In court documents filed Monday and obtained by the Tuscaloosa Thread, investigators charged 24-year-old Efon Guissepe Carter with four felonies after an investigation allegedly found he was using social media to solicit explicit material from a young child here.
Stephanie Taylor, a spokesperson for the Tuscaloosa Police Department and the West Alabama Human Trafficking Task Force, said they began working the case earlier this year.
"In August, investigators with the West Alabama Human Trafficking Task Force / Vice Task Force learned that the suspect had been communicating with a minor female in Tuscaloosa via social media apps and text messages," Taylor said. "Working with outside agencies, including LAPD, Efon Carter, 24, from Los Angeles, California, was identified as the suspect who had solicited images and videos from the child. He was charged at the Tuscaloosa County Jail Saturday."
Carter was charged with first-degree human trafficking, producing pornography with a minor, electronic solicitation of a child and transmission of obscene material.
Taylor said he turned himself in at the county jail Saturday and is being held without bond. Carter's mugshot was not immediately available Monday afternoon.
