A West Alabama trucker is dead after succumbing to injuries he sustained Monday in a head-on collision with a teenage driver.

Senior Trooper Gregory Corble, a spokesperson for the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, said the deceased was Therond Adams Jr., a 60-year-old commercial truck driver from Livingston, Alabama.

Corble said Adams was driving a 2020 Mack tractor-trailer on Alabama 18 in Lamar County when he collided head-on with a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado operated by a 16-year-old from Millport, Alabama.

State Troopers say Adams was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, and his semitruck left the roadway and struck a ditch. The Sulligent truck driver was transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus, Mississippi, but did not survive his injuries and died on Tuesday.

The 16-year-old driving the Chevy and a 16-year-old passenger were reportedly both injured and taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Corble said the wreck happened at about 2:25 p.m. Monday in Lamar County, where both drivers lived, about four miles west of Vernon.

No other information was available when Troopers confirmed the fatality earlier this week as they continued to investigate the crash.
