New Furniture Store on Tuscaloosa’s Skyland Boulevard Aims for October Opening
A large, new storefront being built beside a popular gym on Tuscaloosa's Skyland Boulevard is a furniture gallery set to open later this year, developers told the Thread Tuesday.
As local motorists have probably noticed, the store is under construction next to the Planet Fitness at 701 Skyland Boulevard, which has also temporarily blocked access to the larger shopping center there from Old Montgomery Highway.
The property is owned by a limited liability company registered to Birmingham commercial real estate developer Gary Pharo, who said on Tuesday the new store would be a La-Z-Boy Furniture Gallery.

La-Z-Boy makes and sells residential furniture, including the recliners for which they're best known, and the new store will be one of more than 360 locations in the company's network - the current closest store to Tuscaloosa shoppers is in Hoover.
In a call with the Thread Tuesday, Pharo said he expected the new store to be completed and open sometime around October if all goes according to plan.
Pharo also put the worries of local drivers to rest - although access to the larger shopping center from Old Montgomery Highway has been blocked for the construction process, it will eventually open back up. He said that when the project is finished, it will allow the same ingress and egress to the gym and other stores and restaurants there that existed before work began on the La-Z-Boy.
