Police in Tuscaloosa spent Sunday evening engaged with large groups of people who were reportedly reveling, racing and firing guns at several locations across the city.

Stephanie Taylor, a spokesperson for the Tuscaloosa Police Department, said officers were first called to DLP Tuscaloosa, a luxury apartment complex off Highway 69 South, where "around 200 people" were driving in and out of the parking lot. Taylor said there was a pool party at the complex that drew a large crowd and revelers were causing problems with parking and blocking entrances and exits to the apartments.

TPD officers responded and the vehicles involved left the complex, Taylor said.

Soon after, at 6:15 p.m., Taylor said dispatchers received reports that 100 cars were racing in the parking lot at Snow Hinton Park, and another caller reported several hundred cars in the parking lot of evolve Tuscaloosa, another apartment complex off Jack Warner Parkway.

Callers reported hearing gunshots there, and officers eventually found a shooting victim at the emergency room of DCH Regional Medical Center who is expected to survive their injuries.

A smaller group of 30 or so vehicles were reported at Redpoint Apartments off Hargrove Road, and Taylor said officers are still on site there investigating reports that the group will not leave the complex property.

Finally, at 7:40 p.m., dispatchers took a call that a man had been shot at Aspen Village Apartments on 48th Street East. That victim, who has not yet been identified, died of his injuries and a possible suspect has been taken into custody.

Further updates are expected later from the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit.
