A 20-year-old Lamar County man pleaded guilty to two felony charges involving child pornography last week, according to a Monday afternoon release.

Andy Hamlin, the district attorney for the 24th Judicial Circuit of Alabama, prosecutes crime in Fayette, Lamar and Pickens counties. In a press release, Hamlin said Mason Logan Martinez of Kennedy entered an open-ended guilty plea in Fayette County Circuit Court last week.

An investigation determined Martinez created and shared obscene videos depicting underage females, Hamlin said. He has been jailed since his arrest in May 2021.

Martinez was indicted by a grand jury four months later on one count of possession of child pornography and one count of dissemination of child pornography and pleaded guilty to both last week.

The release states a settlement agreement was not reached in the case, which will subject Martinez to the statutory sentencing ranges. His sentencing hearing will be scheduled at a later date.

Hamlin said the office is seeing more predators use social media apps to exploit and victimize children and plans to factor that into Martinez's sentence.

"We intend to present evidence at the sentencing hearing regarding the nature and severity of these crimes and will be pushing for a sentence commensurate with the facts," Hamlin said.
