Joe Pete Hayes, age 84 of Tuscaloosa, passed away March 3, 2024 at Hospice of West Alabama.

Services will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 11:00 am at Magnolia Chapel South. Visitation will be held in the chapel one hour prior to the service. Entombment will follow at Memory Hill Gardens.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Jimmie Gene Hayes, parents; Malcolm Hayes, Sr. and Lucille Greer, brothers; Mack Hayes, LM Hayes, Revis Hayes, and sister; Louise Burkhalter.

Joe Pete is survived by his daughter; Terri Watkins (Graves), son; Stan Hayes (Karen), grandchildren; Riley Jo Watkins, Trace Watkins, Jamie Hayes,Mandy Sabbagh (Garth), great grandchild; Gage Sabbagh, brother; Ray Hayes, sisters; Shirley Ann Patton, Charlotte Dodson (Tommy), Bonnie Ruth Grant, brother-in-law; Mike Spiller (Connie), sister-in-laws; Nedra Franks, Joan Ashcraft (Duane), and many nieces and nephews.

If you knew Joe Pete you knew he had a heart of gold; always helping others. He found it hard to turn down any request for help, but giving to others is where that heart of gold got polished. Whether it be welding, carpentry, electrical, plumbing or painting--he could do it. He was the jack of all trades. Joe Pete was a proud veteran of the Marine Corps and completed his service at the Corps of Engineers. After retiring, Joe Pete enjoyed traveling around with his wife Jimmie Gene in their RV for treasures and the Tide.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Trace Watkins and Jamie Hayes, nephews Randy Hayes, Ricky Hayes, Lee Hayes, Tanner Ashcraft, Hayden Franks and friends Preston Gothard and Ray Pruitt.

Honorary pallbearers are members of Taylorville Methodist Church, Diane Townsend, Tommy Townsend (Julie), Mike Stanley, Rebecca Scott, Ron Abernathy, Sue Miller, Tiger Moore (Desha), Jerry Griffin, Skipper & Debra Clements, Leonard Robinson (Camille), Jan Whited, Jack & Jo Ann Thompson, Dr. Stephen Browne (Pam), Dr. Shah, Dr. Shekar, Seniors Prefer Homecare caregivers, Hospice of West Alabama.
