Jasper Teenager Dies Day After Hitting Pothole Causes Crash
A Jasper teenager died Sunday the day after a single-vehicle crash that State Troopers say was caused by a pothole in the road and made fatal by an unused seatbelt.
Senior Trooper Brandon Bailey, a spokesperson for the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, said the 18-year-old driver was operating a 2011 Nissan Sentra when they struck a pothole on Whitehouse Road near Industrial Parkway in Walker County.
Bailey said the Nissan left the roadway and struck a concrete bridge rail.
The 18-year-old was not wearing a seatbelt, police said, and was critically injured in the crash, which took place at 9:50 p.m. on Saturday.
The teenager was transported to a local hospital but died there on Sunday.
The accident happened about a mile south of Jasper in Walker County, and no other details were available on Tuesday evening.
