James Alexander Neville, IV, age 86, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, passed away September 16, 2022 in Marietta, Georgia.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 22, 2022, at Jennings Chapel UMC with Rev. Sheree Elliott and Dr. Bill Thetford officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Magnolia Chapel North directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.

He was preceded in death by his wife Carole Bolling Neville; father, James A. Neville, III; mother, Marguerite Thompson Neville; and sister, Connie Neville Wise.

Survivors include his daughters, Laurie N. Shimoda (Nick) and Julia N. Dudley (Ross); son, Alex Neville; stepsons, Benson Bolling and Bill Bolling; brother, Michael D. Neville; grandchildren, Lacey Shimoda, Lindsey Shimoda, Brianna Bolling, Jordan Grammer, Preston Bolling, and Parker Bolling.

Jim, affectionately known by many as “Doc,” was born and raised in Birmingham, Ala. He graduated from Veterinary School at Auburn University in 1960, served in the U. S. Army and then settled in Tuscaloosa where he started a veterinary hospital in Northport. He also worked at the University of Alabama in the Microbiology Department and retired from UA in 2003. Jim was a faithful member of the YMCA Y’s Men’s Club for 58 years and served as a volunteer at the Tuscaloosa County Juvenile Detention Center for several years.

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He loved a good story and a good meal. He was patient, gentle and kind and he loved the Lord.

Pallbearers will be Wally Welch, Tony Simmons, Dax Hinton, Glen Strickland, Steve Strickland, and Keith Strickland.

Honorary pallbearers are members of the Y’s Men’s Club.
