Congresswoman Sewell Invites Job Seekers to Meet 80 Employers in Selma

Today, Thursday, August 6, Congresswoman Terri Sewell is hosting her 15^th Annual Job Fair from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Wallace Community College Selma, located at 3000 Earl Goodwin Parkway, Selma, Alabama 36701.

Sewell is committed to helping the residents of Alabama’s 7th Congressional District by bringing jobs and economic opportunities. According to the press release, she is “especially excited to bring this year's event back to my hometown of Selma, where job seekers from across the Black Belt will have the opportunity to connect directly with employers, explore new opportunities, and take the next step in their career journey.”

Mary K of Townsquare Media caught up with Sewell on Wednesday, August 5, and again today, Thursday, August 6, to get more perspective on the annual job fair.

She shared with Mary K that when she first got elected in 2010, “the biggest issue was the Great Recession, and average unemployment nationwide was around 8% back then. And you know, in my district, we were 13.7 percent average unemployment. And so, I really made a campaign pledge that I would use the platform of being a member of Congress to bring together really great companies in Alabama with job seekers, so that we can have better and more high-paying jobs in our district. So that's really what started it,” said Sewell.
