Severe Storms Possible Over the Next Few Days Across Alabama
Severe storms are expected to roll in over the next few days across portions of Alabama. This could impact your plans during the Memorial Day Holiday weekend.
Today - Thursday Outlook
“A few widely scattered showers or storms are possible over North Alabama this afternoon and early tonight with the odds of any one spot getting wet is 20-30 percent,” said James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist.
In addition, those in that area should know that wherever storms develop, they could be strong, potentially bringing small hail and gusty winds, said Spann.
Holiday Weekend Overview
The National Weather Service in Birmingham said that “a few disturbances move east over the area and will trigger shower and thunderstorm development with most of the activity and greater risk for strong to severe storms occurring during the late morning through late evening time frame.”
Insight on Friday
A portion of the Townsquare Media Coverage area is included in a “Marginal Risk,” which consists of all of Bibb, Fayette, Lamar, Pickens, and Walker counties. Plus, a portion of Greene, Hale, Perry, and Sumter.
The main concern is damaging winds and quarter-sized hail from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m.
Information for Saturday
The main threats for Saturday are damaging winds and quarter-sized hail from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m.
Currently, there is “Marginal Risk,” which includes a portion of Alabama. This consists of some counties in our coverage area, like Fayette, Lamar, and Walker counties, with a small section of Tuscaloosa County.
Sunday Thoughts
As a cold front approaches our area, it could bring the issue of severe weather with a batch of storms to North Alabama late Sunday night into early Monday morning.

As always, I stress the importance that as weather conditions develop ahead of the impact on Alabama, this could change the forecast. – Mary K. – Weather Forecaster.
