Even though the fall season has been relatively warm, it’s never too early to plan for the winter months and frigid temperatures.

To help those in need this winter season, Serving Bama and Big Days of Service are collecting new and gently worn coats until Friday, December 12.

As we all know, winters in Alabama can be unpredictable; a warm day can be followed by a brutal cold one. For people already struggling, a sudden temperature drop can become a real danger. A donated coat can bring immediate relief to those in need.

According to the press release, the coats collected will be donated to Temporary Emergency Services, which, for more than 75 years, has “helped individuals and families in crisis situations by providing financial and other temporary assistance.”

You can drop off coat donations at The Center for Service and Leadership (CSL), which is located behind The University of Alabama Student Center Supe Store, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

CSL said that the coat drive is a needed collection drive and that “it is important to help others in need who need help. The winter months can be brutal to people, and we want to be as helpful as we can towards our community.”

Last year, we were informed of a need from our community, and we moved forward to provide as much support as we could,” said Sadarias Williams, CSL Director. “We want the community to know we are here to serve as much as we can and to be as helpful as possible.”
