Rece Davis Defends Theo Von on College Gameday
ESPN College Gameday host Rece Davis was asked on Friday morning about Theo Von's appearance on College Gameday this Saturday, with the comedian making his second appearance on the college football preview show.

There was uproar from Alabama fans about the selection, with Von attending all but one of Vanderbilt's games this season, and a bet he had with Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia to get a date with Pavia's mom.
Von also lives in Nashville and has familiarized himself with the Vanderbilt football program. On Friday, College Gameday host Rece Davis defended the decision (not his decision) to have Theo Von on College Gameday.
"Have you checked out his social media following?" Davis asked. "Do you know how many people follow him?"
Von has 8.5 million followers on Instagram and 1.6 million followers on X. His online presence is no doubt a big one, and he's recently expanded his presence into the college football world, hosting Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin on his podcast before the season.
"He's hilarious, he's been on the show before," Davis continued. "I understand that schools would like to have one of their legends - we do that a lot. We've had Joe Namath on here, if memory serves, I think we've invited Ozzie Newsome, who'd love to do it, just sometimes it doesn't work out.
"When you have someone who sort of transcends the game and expands your reach, he's also awesome like Theo Von. I mean, Theo Von's an easy yes. 'Hey, Theo, you wanna come be the guest picker?' 'Yeah, I think I can do that.' 'You're in.' I mean, that's kinda it. He's a star, man. He's big time."
It's unlike College Gameday to bring in a guest who is associated with the away team for the preview show. Davis also had a response to that question.
"I haven't heard anybody complain about Nick (Saban) being up there every week, you know? Nick is gonna play it and tell you what he thinks, and he might pick against Alabama tomorrow or any other time. He's got the right to do that, and he might, but if you're talking association, is there anyone more associated with Alabama than Nick Saban?"
College Gameday will start at 8:00 a.m. CT on Saturday, October 4. The Crimson Tide and the Commodores will kick off at 2:30 p.m. CT.
