Hillcrest's offense started the game sluggishly, going three-and-out on its first drive, which resulted in a punt. However, their defense quickly turned things around just two plays later when Marvin Johnson intercepted a pass. He nearly returned it for a touchdown but was knocked out of bounds at the Gophers' one-yard line. Hillcrest's junior quarterback, Jordan Shambley, then sneaked the ball in for a one-yard touchdown, putting the score at 7-0 with 10:05 left in the first quarter.

Hueytown responded to the drive with a strong performance, as the Gophers advanced 75 yards thanks to some impressive throws from senior quarterback Jaeydan Powell to Karder Johnson. This drive positioned Hueytown's offense inside the Patriots' ten-yard line, where senior running back AJ Robinson rushed in from eight yards out for a touchdown. With a successful extra point following the score, the game was tied with 6:48 remaining in the first quarter.

Hillcrest's offense started with excellent field position at midfield after a solid kick return from the Patriots' special teams unit. Unfortunately, they turned the ball over on downs when what had been a successful fourth-and-one attempt ended up as fourth-and-ten due to a holding penalty. This gave the Gophers possession at their own 45-yard line.

Hueytown capitalized off of this with a 65-yard drive that was led behind the arm of Powell with the Senior quarterback connecting with Gophers' senior receiver Kamar Williams-Eatmon for a 30-yard pass which put Hueytown inside Hillcrest's 20-yard line, shortly after Robinson rushed for his second touchdown of the quarter this one being a five-yard rushing touchdown to make it a 14-7 ball game with two minutes left in the first quarter.

Hillcrest allowed Hueytown to score six additional points after a fumbled punt return. The Gophers' special teams took advantage of the mistake by returning the ball for a 20-yard touchdown. This brought the score to 20-7, following a failed extra point attempt, with just one minute left in the first quarter.

Hillcrest got on the board before halftime thanks to a nice drive led by a 20-yard pass to Junior wide receiver Trenton Curley, which put the Patriots at the Gophers' one-yard line shortly after Shambley connected with running back Jacobi Harris for a one-yard touchdown pass to make it 20-14 going into the second half.

Hueytown struck first in the second half with Williams-Eatom coming away with a 32-yard receiving touchdown from Powell to give the Gophers a 12-point lead after the unsuccessful two-point conversion with three minutes left in the third quarter.

Hillcrest answered back quickly, thanks to a 65-yard kick return from wide receiver Jalen Cook to set the Patriots up in Gophers territory with Shambley shortly after taking it 30 yards for a touchdown to make it 26-21 with 1:51 remaining in the third quarter.

The fourth quarter saw Hillcrest inside the red zone several times, but not being able to capitalize with a touchdown, with the Patriots giving up a turnover on downs or settling for a field goal, with Hillcrest's kicker, Elijah Miller, making a 31-yard field goal to make it 26-24 with six minutes remaining in the game.

Hueytown's offense was eager to add more points after the Gophers achieved a few first downs and rushed the ball to midfield. Unfortunately, a fumble dashed their hopes of increasing their lead, allowing Hillcrest to recover the ball at midfield. This turnover led to a 36-yard field goal by Miller, which sailed right through the uprights, giving the Patriots their first lead of the game since early in the first quarter, with less than a minute remaining.

The Gophers' offense drove down the field and had themselves in position to secure a victory with Hueytown's sophomore kicker, Jesus Sosa, set up with a 36-yard game-winning field goal with ten seconds left. Still, Hillcrest's defensive line was too strong with Miles Madden, Alabama commit Zay Hall, and other Hillcrest defenders blocking Sosa's field goal attempt to secure the 27-26 victory for the Patriots.

Hillcrest improved to 4-2 on the season, with the Patriots hosting the winless Tuscaloosa County Wildcats next Friday.
