Alabama Coaches Honor Entire WR Corps
Last week it was the entire offensive line. This week, the Alabama football coaching staff honored the Tide's entire receiving rotation vs. Kentucky as Players of the Week.
Overall, the coaching staff named 10 players of the week following the Crimson Tide’s 49-21 SEC West clinching win at Kentucky last Saturday. Receivers Malik Benson, Isaiah Bond, Jalen Hale, Kendrick Law and Kobe Prentice were selected on offense. Linebackers Chris Braswell and Jihaad Campbell along with defensive end Jaheim Oatis were named on defense. Punter ames Burnip and running back Jam Miller were the special teams honorees for their efforts against the Wildcats.
Here's what the coaches saw when they graded tape of the win:
OFFENSE
Benson started in place of the ill Jermaine Burton and pulled in one reception for 15 yards, picking up a first down to extend Alabama's drive that resulted in a touchdown.
Bond hauled in two receptions for 24 yards while adding one rush for a gain of three yards. The sophomore converted two first downs with a long reception of 17 on the afternoon.
Hale, a freshman, grabbed one reception for 51 yards, picking up 36 yards after the catch on a chunk play late in the fourth quarter that picked up a first down on third-and-long to extend yet another Tide scoring drive.
Law caught one pass for a gain of 11 and a Tide first down and added 52 yards on his two kickoff returns with a long of 26.
Prentice caught four of his five targets for 74 yards and a touchdown and led all wideouts in receiving yards and catches while tying for the team-high mark for scores. The sophomore scored from 40 yards out for the Tide’s second touchdown of the day on a pass from Jalen Milroe.
DEFENSE
Braswell provided consistent pressure off the edge all day against the Wildcats as he has most of the season. The senior recorded a pair of tackles, including half a sack (-5 yards), while adding one quarterback hurry.
Campbell was all over the field and was credited with five total tackles, including one for loss (-1 yard). The sophomore also contributed one quarterback hurry and a pass breakup.
Oatis led the Alabama defense in production points and registered two total tackles, including half a tackle for loss (-2 yards). The sophomore added one quarterback hurry as a part of a Tide defense that limited Kentucky to just 21 yards rushing before the Alabama reserves took over late in the fourth quarter.
SPECIAL TEAMS
Burnip was called on to punt three times against Kentucky, accumulating 136 yards with a long punt of 55. The redshirt junior averaged 45.3 yards per punt, pinning the Wildcat offense inside the 20 on two of his three boots.
