An infant child was killed in a single-vehicle accident in Greene County Sunday morning, according to Alabama State Troopers.

Justin O'Neal, a spokesperson for the Troopers in West Alabama, said a 19-year-old woman, Keyasha Williams, was driving on U.S. Highway 11 near Boligee with a one-month-old baby in the car.

O'Neal said the 2013 Chevrolet Cruz Williams was driving left the roadway and struck a guardrail and a tree before coming to stop around six miles south of Boligee.

Troopers said the baby was not properly restrained in the vehicle and was fatally injured in the crash. The child was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The driver and child were residents of Boligee, O'Neal said.

No further details were available Sunday afternoon, and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency's Highway Patrol Division continues to investigate the deadly wreck.

Editor's note: an earlier version of this story said the driver in this wreck was the infant's mother -- ALEA did not specify their relationship in its press release to local media. This story has been corrected to reflect that.
