ICYMI: Week 2 Scores Around the SEC
Another Saturday of college football is in the books. Here are the results from SEC play.
Mercer @ (1) Alabama: Alabama annihilated Mercer, 48-14. Bryce Young stunned, going 19-27, 227 yards, 3 TD’s. Biggest Stories: Will Anderson left the game with a lower leg injury, and K Will Reichard missed his first kick since 2019(on a FG attempt), making 19 straight FG’s and 110 straight extra points prior to that miss.
Pittsburgh @ Tennessee: Both teams battled back and forth offensively; however, Pitt kept the advantage throughout the game, and their dominating defense down the stretch, sealed their win against Tennessee 41-34.
Alabama State @ (25)Auburn: Auburn maintained control of the game from start to finish, shutting out the Hornets 62-0. Bo Nix went 9-17, earning 108 yards and 2 TDs. Former LSU QB, now backup AU QB TJ Finley entered the game and went 2-2 for 66 yards and 1 TD.
South Carolina @ East Carolina: The Gamecocks beat the Pirates 20-17. The Gamecocks battled through deficits the entire game. South Carolina held the Pirates scoreless for the last 8:45 of game-time, and K Parker White hit the 36-yd FG as time expired to secure the win.
(13)Florida @ South Florida: The Gators beat the Bulls in Tampa, Fla., 42-20. QB Emory Jones completed 14 of 22 passes, 151 yards, 1 rushing TD and 2 INT’s. Backup QB Anthony Richardson perfected his line, 3-3, 152 yards and 2 TDs- one rushing. WR Jacob Copeland recorded 5 receptions for 175 yards and 2 TD’s.
UAB @ (2) Georgia: No Daniels, no problem. The Bulldogs bulldozed the Blazers 56-7. QB Stetson Bennett went 10-12, 288 yards, and had a record breaking 5 TD’s, tied for the most passing TD’s in a game in school history(via ESPN).
(5) Texas A&M @ Colorado: The Aggies edge the Buffaloes 10-7, after a late TD drive with 2:41 left in the game. Aggies QB Zach Calzada went 18-38, 183 yards, 1 TD.
(15) Texas at Arkansas: Arkansas upset Texas 40-21. The Razorback running backs stole the show, as four of them each scored a TD, adding to Arkansas’ advantage.
NC State @ MS State: The Bulldogs wrecked the Wolfpack 24-10. MS State’s defense highlighted the game, holding NC State to only 32 rush yards, and forced three turnovers: two picks and a fumble.
Austin Peay @ (20) Ole Miss: Ole Miss overpowered Austin Peay 54-17. Rebels QB Matt Corral added to his Heisman watch, completing 24 of his 33 passes for 281 yards, and 5 TDs.
Missouri @ Kentucky: The Wildcats defeated the Tigers 35-28. Kentucky RB Chris Rodriguez stole the show, earning 211 yards and scoring four of their five touchdowns.
McNeese @ LSU: The Tigers crushed the Cowboys 34-7 in the battle of the Orgerons. LSU QB Max Johnson went 18-27 for 161 yards and 3 TDs. Fun fact: LSU coach Ed Oregon’s son, Cody, is the starting QB for McNeese, and competed against his dad tonight.
Vanderbilt at Colorado State: The Commodores edged the Rams 24-21. In the first quarter, Colorado State commanded; then, Vandy roared back, outscoring the Rams 24 to 7, including: 21 unanswered points and the go-ahead kick to win them the game with 19 seconds left on the clock.
