Greensboro Officer Recovering After Deadly Traffic Stop
Greensboro Police Officer Miguel Edwards is recovering well at home according to Hale County authorities. He was shot during an exchange of gunfire at the Magnolia Village Apartments in Greensboro last Thursday. The suspect in that incident, 64-year-old Robert Williams of Greensboro, died.
The officer had pulled Williams over during a traffic stop in the 1000 Block of Blount Street according to police reports. When Officer Edwards approached the vehicle, Williams allegedly produced a firearm and shot him. Williams then returned fire, striking Williams. The entire incident was caught on camera.

The suspect was transported to Hale County Hospital, where he later was pronounced dead from his wounds.
Hale County Sheriff Michael Hamilton issued a statement saying, "We are grateful to hear that the officer is recovering well at home, and we continue to pray for him. Incidents like this serve to remind us of the risks our law enforcement officers face in protecting others."
The sheriff also recognized the suspect's loss of life, "...moments like these underscore the seriousness and weight of the situation."
ALEA’s State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has taken over the investigation at the request of the Hale County Sheriff’s Office.
ALEA Secretary Hal Taylor reacted to the incident in a press release, "Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured Greensboro Police Officer and his family as he continues to receive care. What began as a traffic stop, which is never routine, quickly turned into a life-threatening situation, underscoring the dangers officers face every day. Incidents like this weigh heavily on the entire law enforcement community. We are praying for the Officer’s full recovery and will continue to stand alongside the family and fellow officers during this difficult time.”
No further statements will be issued by ALEA as the investigation remains ongoing. Once complete, the findings will be turned over to the office of Hale County District Attorney Robert H. Turner Jr.
