A Gordo woman was arrested after an alleged federal stimulus check scam, officials have confirmed.

Charlie Antaira Craig, 37, was charged with first-degree theft Thursday after she allegedly cashed her federal Economic Impact Payment, otherwise known as the COVID-19 stimulus check, and later attempted to file a claim the check had been stolen, so she could receive a replacement.

Craig was taken into custody and remains in the Pickens County Jail on a $5,000 bond.

District Attorney Andy Hamlin said that those with information about this case or any other cases related to fraud should call 205-367-9915.
