Four With Tuscaloosa, Alabama Ties Named SEC Players of the Week
The Southeastern Conference announced its players of the week for Week 5 of the 2021 college football season and four of its 11 honorees have significant ties to Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
The SEC honored two Alabama players, super senior Brian Robinson and sophomore Will Anderson as Co-Offensive Player of the Week and Co-Defensive Player of the Week.
Robinson rushed for a career high 171 yards and four touchdowns against the Ole Miss Rebels. He is one of nine players in the history of the Crimson Tide to rush for four touchdowns in a game and he helped control the pace of the game for Alabama with eight first down runs to go with his touchdowns. Additionally, Robinson, a Hillcrest High School alum, was named the Walter Camp National Player of the Week.
Anderson tallied nine total tackles with 2.5 occurring for a loss and one sack. The sophomore linebacker was named the SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season after earing the award for his efforts against the Gators also. "The Terminator" now leads the SEC in tackles for a loss this season with 11.
The Alabama linebacker shared the SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week award with another player with Tuscaloosa roots. Kentucky's inside linebacker, Jacquez Jones tallied nine tackles with one for a loss and a QB-hurry. He got his hands on the Gators' last pass for the game-sealing pass breakup. His defensive unit held Florida to just 171 rushing yards, well below its season average. Jones is a Tuscaloosa-native, playing his high school football at Tuscaloosa County and at Hillcrest High School.
Lastly, kicker Joe Bulovas was named SEC Co-Special Teams Player of the Week. He kicked the 31-yard game-winning field goal for the Commodores and was perfect three-for-three in the game. He scored 12 of Vanderbilt's 30 points in the contest, helping the Commodores win its first home game since the 2019 season. Bulovas spent several seasons in Tuscaloosa kicking for the Crimson Tide before transferring to Vanderbilt.
