UPDATE: The roadway is clear and finally reopened about 24 hours after the wreck.

A fiery semitruck crash has completely shut down Interstate 20/59 in western Tuscaloosa County early Thursday morning.

Corporal Reginal King, a spokesperson for the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency State Troopers, said a multi-vehicle crash took place a few minutes after 6 a.m. Thursday.

The accident took place near Mile Marker 61, in the Fosters area, and reportedly involves a semitruck on fire.

Corporal King said the road is closed and will be for an undetermined amount of time.

The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is assisting with traffic control. Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division are on scene investigating and will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates accordingly.

UPDATE: The problem persists even near noon Thursday.
