A West Alabama man died early Thursday in a wreck in Fayette County that also severely injured a woman riding with him, State Troopers report.

Senior Trooper Vu Quang said 32-year-old Thomas Bellsnyder IV was driving a 2009 Chevrolet Equinox outside of Hamilton when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree.

Bellsnyder was reportedly not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Quang said a passenger, a 36-year-old woman, was badly injured and airlifted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham for treatment. Both victims lived in Fayette.

Troopers said the single-vehicle crash happened around 2 a.m. Thursday on Fayette County Road 35 near Canaan Road about six miles south of Hamilton, Alabama.

Nothing other information was available Thursday as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
