Elizabeth "Liz" Moats Gray, age 77 of Northport, Alabama, passed away on June 27, 2026.

Funeral services will be graveside at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Williamson Cemetery, 27th Avenue, Northport, Alabama. with Rev. Greg Walker officiating and Magnolia Chapel North directing.

Liz is survived by her brother, Milton Moats; stepdaughter, Patricia Zwemke; niece, Margaret Reed Hutton; and three cousins. Liz was preceded in death by her husband, William J, Gray; her parents, Frances McClure Moats and William E. Moats, Sr; and her brother, William E. Moats, Jr.

Liz was born on July 3, 1948, in Savannah, Georgia. The family moved to the Birmingham, Alabama, area where she spent her youth, graduating from Berry High School in 1966. Liz attended the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa where she earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in education.

Her career consisted primarily of serving persons with mental and physical disabilities through employment at Partlow State School, West Alabama Comprehensive Services and eventually operating her own business as a braille transcriptionist. Liz had a lifelong passion for training and caring for her German shepherds and other large breed dogs and was active in various kennel club activities and training events. She also had a multitude of other hobbies and passions including growing plants, feeding her birds and was a skilled photographer.
