The family said Short is living with dementia and walked away from his residence around 11 a.m. Tuesday, and no one has heard from or seen him in the hours since.

They said Short is an 88-year-old black man with dark skin and a bald spot in the middle of his head surrounded by white or gray hair.

He was reportedly wearing a multi-colored sweater over a tan shirt and gray sweatpants when he wandered off Tuesday afternoon. He is well-known in the community and often called Nate, the family said.

The family said the Northport Police Department is already cooperating and looking for Short.

UPDATE, WEDNESDAY 1:30 P.M.: Short has now been missing for more than 24 hours. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency has issued a Missing and Endangered Person Alert for him.

There will also be a volunteer search party for Short Wendesday afternoon.

Anyone who may have seen him or especially anyone well-meaning who may have picked him up from Charlie Shirley Road is urged to please immediately call 205-614-2293 or 205-210-3849 and update Short's family.
