An automotive supplier in Northport will close later this year and almost 50 workers are expected to be laid off, according to a notice from the Alabama Department of Commerce.

The Eberspächer plant closure, announced on the department's WARN List, will begin in August. The decision will result in 47 layoffs, according to the website.

Eberspächer, a German company, came to Northport in 2003 to supply auto exhaust systems to Mercedes Benz U.S. International in Vance.

Laid-off workers may have the opportunity to work at other Eberspächer plants in the U.S., and anyone looking to stay in the Tuscaloosa area should contact West AlabamaWorks to seek placement at a different supplier.
