A two-vehicle crash in Hale County killed two people from Uniontown and injured a Tuscaloosa man Thursday afternoon near Moundville.

A spokesperson with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency State Troopers said the crash occurred just before 4 o'clock when 66-year-old James Pope Jr. was driving his 1995 Chevrolet 1500 along Alabama Highway 69.

Pope Jr. and his 62-year-old passenger Mary Pope then collided head-on with a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado near mile marker 127, approximately four miles south of Moundville city limits.

The driver of the Silverado, a 42-year-old Tuscaloosa man, was injured in the crash and was transported to DCH Regional Medical Center for treatment. Both occupants of the 1500 were pronounced dead at the scene.

Nothing further was available Friday morning as the ALEA Highway Patrol Division continues to investigate.
