Wendy Bailey's attorney Stuart D. Albea requested the Circuit Court of Fayette County to again delay a plea hearing set for April 14th. In the Motion for Continuance, the Tuscaloosa lawyer based his request on still being in the process of reviewing discovery, reviewing medical records, and investigating defenses. In the court document he stated, "This matter is not yet ready to proceed to resolution."

The court granted Albea's request and has now rescheduled the plea hearing for September 14th.

The child's grandfather is apparently still scheduled to appear in court on April 14th for his plea hearing.

The case stems from a December 2024 car crash that killed Kahleb's father and his two-year-old sister. While investigating that crash, officers discovered that Kahleb was missing, and they suspected had been missing for some time.

The child's mother and grandfather became suspects in the case after it was discovered that Kahleb had allegedly been severely abused prior to his disappearance.

Court documents allege the mother failed to intervene on more than two occasions that Kahleb was physically abused by tortuous means by his father Stephen Collins. It states Collins actions were "such as being bound with rope, physically assaulted, and being bound by a rope from a loft with blood and bruising present." The filing says there is photographic evidence.

John bailey was charged with failure to report a missing child.

Both defendants have pleaded not guilty by reason of mental disease of defect to the charges of abuse of a corpse and felony murder/aggravated assault.
