The city of Northport is asking for proposals from individuals or entities who could bring a new, publicly beneficial use to the former headquarters of an area nonprofit.

City officials are trying to find a new lessee for the former United Cerebral Palsy of West Alabama building on UCP Parkway just off Rice Mine Road - the organization is running now out of a new, modern space on Highway 69 North.

In a Thursday public notice, Northport City Administrator Glenda Webb said as they decide how to use the now-empty space, the city council is going to be looking for another tenant dedicated to the public good.

Specifically, the city seeks those who focus on educational and/or social services for underserved communities.

The request for proposals asks interested parties to submit statements about how they would use the building, how much they could afford to pay to rent it, a timeline about when their services could come online and more.

That info is due to City Administrator Webb on or before the end of business on March 10th, and if any proposals are accepted, it will kick off a three-month period of due diligence during which either party can terminate the deal with or without cause.
