A 9-year-old girl was killed in an off-roading accident on private property Tuesday, area police confirmed Thursday morning.

Captain Jack Kennedy, the commander of the multi-agency Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office and the VCU were called to the scene of the accident on Hagler Coaling Road around 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Kennedy said the victim, a 9-year-old girl. was riding in a side-by-side all-terrain vehicle at the time of the accident and did not survive her injuries.

The VCU investigates almost all deaths outside of a hospital setting in Tuscaloosa County, and Kennedy said they did not believe foul play was involved in the child's death.

 

No further details about this incident will be publicly released out of respect for the privacy of the girl's family.
