As a cold front moves into the state of Alabama today there will be the chance of showers and thunderstorms with a low end of severe storms for our coverage areas. Please note that the risk areas and timing have changed from our forecast last night.
James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist said that the Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has “defined a "slight risk" (level 2/5) for areas east of I-65, and north of I-85. Much of the rest of the state is in a "marginal risk" (level 1/5), but no severe storms are expected for places like Mobile and Dothan.”
National Weather Service in Birmingham Highlights

Today between 8 AM and 7 PM
Damaging winds up to 60 mph

Spann suggests that the “strong storms will enter the northwest corner of the state around 7:00 a.m.... and the line will move eastward during the day. The window for the heavier storms for places like Tuscaloosa/Birmingham/Anniston/Gadsden will come from about 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Storms arrive South Alabama by mid to late afternoon.”
Even though the tornado risk level is low, we can’t completely rule it out. As always, if a tornado warning is issued for any of our coverage area counties we will provide you live updates on the Tuscaloosa Thread and also nonstop weather coverage on the following radio stations.
