The college football season officially got underway this past week when Central Arkansas took on Austin Peay in the Guardian Credit Union FCS Kickoff Classic. Many thought the chances of college football happening this year were slim to none however the game was well contested as the Bears beat the Governors 24-17 with a touchdown pass in the final seconds of the game.

Although the players underwent numerous COVID-19 tests prior to the game there was a concern that when two teams clashed on the field there might be a spread of undetected coronavirus, halting the progress of the 2020 football season. College football got more good news as the Central Arkansas players and staff have undergone two COVID-19 tests after the game and have all come back negative.

The negative tests allow the Bears to take on the UAB Blazers tomorrow night in Birmingham and give credence to the testing system that is in place at the collegiate level. It is an encouraging sign for college football's viability to be held during the time of a pandemic.

While players and the public alike still need to follow social distancing, mask wearing and proper hand washing players can have confidence when they take the field that everyone has received the proper testing to ensure contact with the opposing team won't keep them out of future game action.
