A West Alabama legislator is running for his seat again when voters go to the polls next year, he announced Monday morning.

Rep. Bryan Brinyark is the incumbent in the Alabama House of Representatives District 16 seat, where he represents constituents from Fayette, Lamar, Tuscaloosa and Jefferson Counties.

He won the seat in a special election last January to replace Kyle South, who left Montgomery to lead the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama as its President and CEO.

On Monday, Brinyark said he will run again next year for a full term in the seat.

Qualifying ends January 23, 2026, and the Republican primary is scheduled for May 19, 2026. The general election is Tuesday, November 3rd, 2026.

Brinyark said that in the year and a half he's been in the Legislature, he has helped pass bills to protect children, lower taxes, strengthen election laws, and more.

That earned him the Legislative Champion Award from the Alabama Policy Institute, he said in a press release.

“I am proud of the work we have accomplished, and I want to continue our fight for lower taxes, better-paying jobs, and safe and secure elections,” Brinyark said.  “In my prior campaign, I promised to work for Alabama families and Alabama values, and I have kept that promise.  And I am ready to continue that fight if the voters send me back to Montgomery.”

Brinyark has five children, who he said are all graduates of Northside High School and the University of Alabama. He attends the Northport Church of Christ, where he is an active member.
