Greg Bryne to Help Launch Boys & Girls Clubs of West Alabama Capital Campaign Next Week

A vital West Alabama nonprofit will announce a capital campaign to raise funds to renovate and upgrade their building, expand programming and more at a kickoff celebration next week.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of West Alabama offers children "a fun, safe place to belong and become," at six locations and schools in the area.

On Thursday, they will kick off their new A LEGACY OF HOPE: The Campaign for Local Youth with an open celebration at the Jaycee Park Club location at 2201 Alberta Parkway. The fun is set to begin at 10 a.m.

A spokesperson said local officials will join the University of Alabama's athletic director Greg Byrne to kick off the campaign, which is raising money for "state-of-the-art updates and renovations to the Jaycee Park Club building, expanded program offerings for all Club members, branded fleet of transportation vans and Mobile Club site vehicles, as well as financial security through the Boys & Girls Clubs of West Alabama Foundation."

Byrne is a major campaign donor, a longtime friend of the organizational the host of their annual Mal Moore Memorial Tournament.

"This campaign is extremely important because it allows Clubs to provide quality programs, in safe spaces, that build character and help members become leaders,” said Campaign Co-Chair, Club Alumna and Board Member Yolanda Stockdale.

The event will also feature comments from the BGCWA's 2023 Youth of the Year LaMorris Bester, a three-year member of the club involved in many of their activities who boasts a 3.9 GPA and leadership positions at Hale County High School.

Following the kickoff program, the Club will be open to the public for several hours for tours.

“We know the time has come for our community to rally on behalf of the children and teens who are the future of Tuscaloosa and the surrounding area,” President and CEO Kim Turner said. "This capital campaign is the next step in making it possible for our Clubs to provide all of the tools and resources local kids need to imagine and create a Great Future.”
