Danielle Edison Lee, the founder and executive director, got the idea to create the organization in Greene County after having her second child. She said she needed extra help covering the cost of diapers, but the closest resource was located in Birmingham, making it hard for her to receive help.

With the support of family and friends, Lee launched the diaper bank in January 2016, collecting diapers and other items for all families in need with no limits based on income -- an obstacle Lee often faced while needing help.

"I had a master's degree and I was making probably thirteen or fourteen dollars an hour and that put me over the income limit," Lee said. "I was the sole provider for my family. What about us who need help, but we just don't qualify? The diaper bank was done to relieve some of the stress on a parent."

Lee and the diaper bank were welcomed to Tuscaloosa by the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama at a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday afternoon.

Lee said diaper and monetary donations are always being accepted and ways to donate can be found on their website by clicking here.
