Officers said a man and woman, both 20 years old, drove to the apartment to get some money Mccalpine owed one of them.

The younger man reportedly told police that he'd taken a firearm from Mccalpine on June 1st as collateral for the unpaid debt, and they were meeting up to trade the gun for the cash.

Police say as soon as Tavarius Mccalpine got the gun back in his hands, he loaded the weapon and opened fire on the vehicle the 20-year-old man and woman were occupying

Fortunately, the 20-year-olds were able escape the apartment complex without injury.

Six months after the shooting, police caught up with Mccalpine and arrested him, charging him with attempted murder, discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle and reckless endangerment.

He remained in the Tuscaloosa County Jail without bond Tuesday morning, where he is also facing unrelated theft charges.
