West Alabama Man Jailed After Shooting Woman in the Head on Father’s Day
A West Alabama man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after he allegedly shot a woman in the head on Father's Day, Pickens County District Attorney Andy Hamlin has confirmed.
Hamlin said the suspect, 30-year-old Dewon Mayhew, got into a fight with a woman and ultimately shot her at a home on Jasper Road in Aliceville, Alabama on June 20th.
Family members of the victim said she was in a relationship with Mayhew that had become privately abusive and the bullet he fired struck her in the head.
The woman miraculously survived the shooting, and Hamlin said she has been released from the hospital and is recovering at home.
The Aliceville Police Department and Pickens County Sheriff's Office investigated the case and gathered enough evidence to arrest Mayhew Tuesday afternoon and charge him with attempted murder.
Mayhew was placed in the Pickens County Jail, where he is waiting for a judge to set a bond in the case.
