The Alabama Department of Transportation will begin a week of nighttime roadwork tonight on a highly trafficked intersection in Northport.

John McWilliams, a spokesperson for ALDOT, said they aim to improve the intersection of US-82 and SR-69 - that's McFarland Boulevard and Lurleen B. Wallace Boulevard, and among the busiest corners in the city.

McWilliams said crews will work in nighttime hours only to reduce their impact on traffic, and the work will begin tonight, Wednesday, November 20th, at 7 p.m. and workers will be on site until 6 a.m.

That schedule will continue all week, from tonight until next Wednesday, November 27th, if weather permits.

During these 11-hour nighttime work windows, McWilliams said eastbound and westbound on McFarland will have a single through-traffic lane with no left turns.

Northbound and southbound traffic on Lurleen Wallace will be right-turn only.

ALDOT said motorists should expect delays, drive carefully, and follow the reduced work-zone speed limits, especially when workers are on-site at night.
