No Public Threat As Police Seek Person of Interest in Tuscaloosa AA Clubhouse Death
Investigators in Tuscaloosa are still not releasing many details about a suspicious death at the local Alconon Club on Jack Warner Parkway except that there is no threat to the public and the search continues for a person of interest.
In a press conference covering three separate homicide cases this week, Captain Jack Kennedy of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit told local media Thursday that the clubhouse death is the only of the three without an arrest so far.
Rehashing the details of the case, Kennedy said on Tuesday, May 14th, TPD and the VCU were called to the Alconon Club building at 2025 Jack Warner Parkway. Although the local chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous meets there regularly, they are separate from the Alconon Club and do not own the property.
A man was dead found at the clubhouse, Russell Thomas Andrews, who was 52. Kennedy said Andrews was a longtime AA member and his death was the result of foul play.
"That case is actively under investigation at this time and there's going to be very little if anything I am going to release about that," Kennedy said.
The VCU earlier this week released information about a person of interest in the case.
Kennedy said the person is only known to police as J.P., and his last name may be Patrick.
"He is described as a white male, approximately 50 years of age, dark hair and eyes, approximately 5’11 tall and 180 lbs. He wears glasses and often wear a soft hat of some sort," Kennedy said. "He may be missing toes on one or both feet and walks with a limp."
Kennedy said they still are seeking information about that individual and about the incident, but they no longer believe the person responsible is in Tuscaloosa County.
He said he has high hopes they will find a resolution to this case soon, and there is no threat to the public at this time.
"We do not believe there is any danger to the community or Tuscaloosa at large as a result of this case," Kennedy said.
Andrews' death marks the 13th homicide the VCU has investigated this year, and a double shooting in Tuscaloosa left a 14th victim dead Thursday morning.
