Former Alabama golfer, and PGA Tour professional, Justin Thomas got off to a slow start in round one of The 2022 Masters. The Louisville native started his day with a bogey on the first hole and was unable to ever really find his groove at Augusta, finishing the first round with a +4, 76.

Thomas struggled through the day on his shots approaching the green hitting just 6-of-18 greens in regulations. He did drive the ball well finding the fairway on 10-of-14 opportunities and his day could have been worse but he scrambled well also, getting up and down both times he found the sand.

This is the seventh Masters for Thomas, today's first round score matches the lowest first round score of his career dating back to his Masters debut in 2016.

Thomas bogied three holes on the front-nine holes but countered with two birdies to head into the turn with a respectable +1 score. Unfortunately, Thomas seemed  increasingly frustrated with the famous course and bogied three additional holes on the back nine to finish +4.

The 4-over round one performance leaves Thomas tied for 70th place and in a 9-shot deficit of the lead. Thomas, however, does have a history of going low in round two at Augusta. He's posted a low score of 67 twice including in 2021 and averages 67.75 in round two over his last four Masters appearances.

The Crimson Tide alum entered the week ranked No. 7 in the world and wanted to improve his resume with a first career green jacket.

Thomas tees off with the reigning Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama and amateur James Piot on Friday for round two at 12:52 p.m. CT.
