
Scattered Power Outages in West Central Alabama
Wind gusts and saturated soil from heavy rains have left scattered power outages cross West Central Alabama today. No significant flooding has been reported in the area according to county Emergency Management Agencies in the area. Most of the flooding issues are northeast, east and south of Tuscaloosa County.
Currently, 5,531 homes and businesses are without power in Alabama. The state has the 4th most power outages in the US and ranks 4th for percentage of customers affected nationwide according to the U.S. Power Outages Map.
Out of 67 counties in Alabama, Jefferson County has the most outages with 2,826 customers without power.

As of 4:00pm the following West central Alabama counties have reported power outages:
- Walker 452
- Sumter 220
- Fayette 112
- Marengo 104
- Lamar 80
- Tuscaloosa 25
- Perry 18
- Bibb 10
- Pickens 1
Alabama Power and Electric Coop crews are working to restore service and should have most back online by mid-evening.
A Flood Watch is scheduled to end across West Alabama at 7:00pm. Jefferson County EMA reports significant flooding in Homewood, Vestavia Hills and several other areas of Jefferson and Shelby counties.
Rain remains in the forecast through the coming week according to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, but the percentage chance will drop below 50% after Wednesday. 4:00pm National Weather Service Doppler Radar shows the rain shield moving out West Central Alabama later this afternoon.
The heaviest rainfall from the passage of remnants of TS Arthur has been in South Alabama where some areas have received as much as 11". Several water rescues had to be performed by first responders. Several roads in Baldwin County have been closed due to flood waters.
