The Alabama Crimson Tide have officially hired a new offensive line coach. Former Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone was named the new offensive line coach for Alabama, it was announced on Twitter today.

Marrone joins his former colleague Bill O'Brien as the second former NFL Head Coach to be added to Nick Saban's staff this offseason. Both will look for a fresh start in a place where coaching turnover has become almost a yearly guarantee.

Marrone has a long history of coaching both in the NFL and in college football. He took Jacksonville to the AFC Championship game in 2017 with a 10-6 record, which was good enough to claim the AFC South for the first time in franchise history. Marrone's Jaguars fell just short of a trip to the Super Bowl at the hands of Tom Brady and the Patriots.

Since 2017, Marrone and the Jaguars have not had such luck, finishing 5-11 the following season, 6-10 in 2019, and 1-15 this season. This lack of consistent success led to Marrone being relived of his duties following the 2020 NFL season.

Before Jacksonville, Marrone previously coached the Buffalo Bills, as well as his alma mater of Syracuse. He also played a brief NFL career for the Los Angeles Raiders.

"I have always admired the programs Coach Saban has built and I am excited to have the opportunity to join his staff at Alabama," said Marrone in his first statement since being hired. "Coach's program is the model of consistency, and I am looking forward to helping continue that tradition of success with an exceptional group of players and coaches."
