Alabama Football Gets Its First Class of 2023 Commit

Safety Elliot Washington II becomes the first commitment for Alabama in the class of 2023. The four-star player announced his decision to join the Crimson Tide on Monday through Twitter, after a visit to Tuscaloosa this past weekend.

Washington comes from Venice, Florida, where he currently attends Venice High School. During his junior season, he accounted for 58 total tackles, including two for loss, and four interceptions en route to helping his school get a state title.

The Tide gave an offer to Washington last June while he visited the school's camp. Last November, Washington announced he had a top-five which included Alabama, Georgia, Michigan State, Ohio State, and Penn State.

Alabama's new cornerbacks coach, Travaris Robinson, may have helped separate the Tide from the rest of the pack as Washington knew about him prior to visiting this past weekend. "They hired coach T-Rob [Robinson], and he coached my cousin Brian Poole at Florida, so he was familiar," said Washington. "I know he has developed a lot of first-round defensive backs at Florida, South Carolina, and Auburn."

Washington is a legacy of Alabama, as his father, Elliot Washington Sr., was a basketball player for the Crimson Tide under coach Wimp Sanderson from 1991-1993.

Washington, coming in at 6-foot-1 and 188 pounds is currently rated the No. 18 safety and No. 194 nationally, according to 247Sports.
