Alabama Crimson Tide defensive back Eddie Smith announced that he was going to enter the transfer portal Wednesday afternoon.

The redshirt sophomore from Slidell, Louisiana participated in 10 games with the Crimson Tide but did not record a stat.

"I want to thank the University of Alabama and coach Saban for believing in me," Smith said in a tweet. "I also want to thank my brothers for lifelong memories made. Although this was a tough decision, after much thought and prayer I have decided to enter the transfer portal."

The former three-star defensive back was ranked the No. 27 cornerback of his class and was also rated the No. 11 prospect in Louisiana. In his senior season at Salmen High School, Smith recorded 29 tackles with three interceptions and a forced fumble. On offense he added 35 receptions for 628 yards and nine touchdowns.

This is the first Alabama player to declare his entry into the transfer portal during the offseason. Ishmael Sopsher and Kevin Harris II entered the transfer portal during the season.
