The UMS-Wright Bulldogs are the back-to-back-to-back defending state champions in Alabama 5A football and were riding a 34-game win streak as they went on the road this past weekend to take on the Mobile Christian School Leopards. The Leopards put the Bulldogs impressive winning streak to an end last Friday thanks to some individual heroics by a 2021 Alabama football commit.

Deontae Lawson out of Mobile Christian School was the first 2021 prospect to commit to the Crimson Tide in this recruiting cycle. He is a considered a four-star prospect and rated as the No. 6 overall recruit in the state of Alabama by the 247Sports Composite.

The inside linebacker put on a show against UMS-Wright by accumulated 24 tackles on defense. Additionally Lawson spent time on the offensive end, rushing for 75 yards on seven carries. The future Alabama player accumulated 51 of his yards on a fake punt while his team was backed up against their own endzone. For the cherry-on-top, Lawson scored the final touchdown and even the game-winning 2-point conversion to put away the Bulldogs 25-24 in OT.

Lawson's heroics in his first week of his senior year sets the tone for the rest of the year. He will lead the Leopards into the first region game this coming week as they travel to take on Escambia County.
