Alabama Basketball Clears Covid-19 Protocols in Indianapolis
The Alabama Men's basketball team is out of quarantine and ready to go in Indianapolis as reported by Charlie Potter on Twitter this afternoon.
The team received all negative Covid-19 tests on Tuesday morning and thus were able to begin practicing ahead of their matchup with the Iona Gaels.
In this year's edition of March Madness, the NCAA elected to have the tournament held in a bubble-like format, similar to how the NBA conducted their playoffs in their own Disney World bubble.
The precautions are extremely strict. Teams were required to remain in quarantine until two consecutive tests taken on separate days are confirmed to be negative.
However, the NCAA elected to change this requirement to 12 hours instead of a full day, which they did not actually come out and announce, opting instead to silently change their protocols.
The reason for this was that Iona's team plane arrived very late to Indianapolis on Sunday night after their MAAC Tournament victory, and needed to be able to practice less than 24 hours after that in order to ensure fairness for all team's practice time.
NCAA President Mark Emmert has stated that while the protocols may evolve throughout the tournament, their central goals of health and safety for all will simply not change
Alabama's game against 15 seed Iona will take place on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. and will be televised on TBS.
