A Northport businessman has added another venture under his belt after opening 5 Star Custom Portable Buildings last week.

The Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama joined Mike Woodard, a realtor and owner of Discount MiniStorage, for a ribbon-cutting last Thursday to officially mark the grand opening.

5 Star Custom Portable Buildings provide "tiny homes" that can be used for greenhouses, "she-sheds," "man caves" and live-in spaces. Woodard said he thought this business would be good for the West Alabama area.

"I thought this area needed a representative for really high-quality portable buildings so I searched out the company that made the highest quality that I could find which was Superior buildings," Woodard said.

Woodard partners with Superior Custom Barns, which is based in Cullman, and serves as their West Central Alabama dealer.

"I'm proud to be a representative of them for this area. They're in a lot of markets like Huntsville, Gadsden, Florence and Decatur but I'm proud to be representative for him here," Woodard said.

Woodard said 5 Star has buildings ready for purchase on-site and contractors available who can provide interior designing, air conditioning, plumbing and other elements that can bring any owner's dream to life.
