Half Shell Oyster House and Black Warrior Brewing Company have teamed up to create two new brews specifically made for the seafood restaurant.

According to general manager Will Turner, the "Southern Pearl IPA" has become one of his best sellers since it was originally put on tap back in March of last year. The dry-hopped Citra IPA is a citrus-flavored brew that Turner said "works very well with seafood."

"[Black Warrior Brewing Company's head brewer, Jason Spikes] is such a mastermind with what he does, he is one of the best in the business," Turner said. "He picked out all the hops, barley and oats everything that would possibly work for us."

Due to the beer's instant success with customers, the beer is now on tap at the Spanish Fort and Mobile locations with hopes of expanding to more locations in the near future. Turner said that he has always been interested in brewing beer and brewed at the restaurant in the past.

Turner's infatuation with beer has led to multiple new drinks, including a brand new oyster stout, another creation in partnership with Black Warrior Brewing Company. This is a darker beer that is made with oyster shell, brine and protein.

"The colder months require a stout," Turner said. "We actually donated some oysters to Black Warrior Brewing Company and he created our own oyster stout called 'Deer Island Oyster Stout.'"

For those who are interested in trying the Southern Pearl IPA or Deer Island Oyster Stout, the restaurant will have them on tap during its daily Happy Hour. Customers can get $2 off all wines by the glass, liquor, and draft beer, $2.50 domestic bottled beer, and $3.50 premium bottled beer from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, check out the Half Shell Oyster House Facebook page here.
