Two people were badly injured in an accident on Highway 43 in Northport Sunday evening, police sources have confirmed.

Keith Carpenter, the assistant chief of the Northport Police Department, said officers were dispatched to the area of Highway 43 and Flatwood Roads around 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

A two-vehicle accident at the intersection left two people seriously hurt, Carpenter said, and both victims were taken to DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa for treatment.

Highway 43 was closed to all traffic in both directions Sunday evening.

UPDATE, 9:15 P.M.: Multiple sources have confirmed that one of the victims, who is reportedly 21 years old, has succumbed to the injuries they sustained in the accident.
