Police discovered a 19-year-old with critically serious gunshot wounds and he was taken to a local hospital, where Sellers said he later died.

The teenage victim was Christopher King Jr., 19, Sellers said.

"The Violent Crimes Unit has assumed the case. A person of interest has been located, and the investigation is active and ongoing at this time," Sellers said. "Anyone who witnessed this incident or has any information is urged to contact the VCU at (205) 464-8690."

UPDATE: The VCU has apprehended a suspect and charged him with murder. Captain Jack Kennedy said the VCU has determined Tyler Colenzo Colvin, 19, was responsible for the deadly shooting.

Kennedy also said evidence shows the shooting occurred during a drug transaction that appears to have led to a fight.

Colvin is being held in the Tuscaloosa County Jail with no bond under Aniah's Law.

By the count of the Tuscaloosa Thread staff, the murder marks the ninth homicide the VCU has investigated in the county so far this year.
